About the Authors

PatternShow is created by Stéphane Gigandet, a passionate pattern designer (you can seen my patterns on my site Spiky Elephant and on my Instagram and Spoonflower shop) and software developer (I love to build creative and collaborative projects, like ScrapColoring, a coloring with patterns platform, and Open Food Facts, the Wikipedia for food products).

I have the irreplaceable help of Clémence Gigandet, a 2D and 3D Game Artist and Illustrator (you can see her work on her ArtStation and Instagram) who is drawing all the mockups.

Why PatternShow?

Creating patterns can be both exhilarating and depressing. The creation process itself, from the first idea and sketches to the final seamless repeat design, is a journey filled with creativity and satisfaction. There is a huge spike of joy when we share our lovingly and painstakingly created patterns with the world, on Instagram, in Spoonflower challenges etc. That spike is fueled by all the likes and positive comments from pattern lovers and fellow creators from the surface pattern design community.

But then there is also the realisation that for many artists, some - if not most - of our patterns will stay virtual, never being used in real life projects. I created and posted dozens of original pattern designs on Spoonflower for 6 months before I had my first sale.

This is why I created PatternShow: I want our patterns to be more used in real life projects, by creators who love patterns as much as we do. Sewists, quilters, crafters and fashion and interior designers also put a lot of efforts, time and love into their creations to make them unique and beautiful. I hope PatternShow will help them find the perfect patterns for their projects.
